The Modules

The basic construction unit of the Village of Tomorrow designs is the module. Each module is a single-pour concrete square 30' by 30' (external dimensions). The overall interior dimensions of a typical undressed module are 28' by 28'. Each module has a domed ceiling with a maximum height of about 13'. Interior rooms may have flat ceilings or may be open to the module ceiling.

The modules may be divided into living modules and common area modules. The living modules are housing units, while the common area modules are set aside for specific purposes. In general, the living modules are placed on the second and third levels of the living tiles, while the common area modules are placed on the first level. The living modules are samples of how the single, duplex, and quadplex modules could be dressed. The quadplex dorm module is intended for short term occupancy.

There are additional common area modules behind those listed, which are found in the School Circle. These handle water and sewer processing, laundry, storage of various kinds, the HVAC system, the Hattie Smart System (the intranet), medical needs (as an infirmary), and construction and repair of everything from pots and pans to furniture to electronics. The hidden modules in the Garden Circle also include a brewery and a winery as well as modules devoted to food and fiber processing and clothing manufacture. And the hidden modules in the Barnyard Circle include a veterinary clinic, as well as modules devoted to food and animal byproduct processing.

You can see how the modules fit together by clicking on the last three links on this page.

No attempt has been made to develop modules for the commercial or wilderness tiles. Tenant finish for them would be handled in much the same way it is for conventional office and commercial buildings.
